We are delighted to announce that the Hon Todd McClay, New Zealand’s Minister for Trade, will headline an event for us on 9 April celebrating Peru’s APEC Year.

The Minister will speak on APEC’s contribution to New Zealand’s trade priorities and regional economic integration. Attendees will also hear about Peru’s APEC goals from H.E. Mr. Juan Carlos Mathews, Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism; Ambassador Carlos Vasquez, APEC Peru 2024 SOM (Senior Officials’ Meeting) Chair; and  Mrs. Julia Torreblanca, ABAC (APEC Business Advisory Council) 2024 Chair.

To set the scene for their remarks, a panel of past, present and emerging leaders of New Zealand’s engagement with APEC will also highlight the importance of APEC to New Zealanders. After the panel and presentations there will be an opportunity to network with other attendees.

The schedule for this celebration will be:

  • 6:05-6:25 – Panel on APEC’s importance to New Zealand – featuring Dr Alan Bollard, former Executive Director of the APEC Secretariat
  • 6:25-6:40 – Peru’s goals for APEC 2024 and beyond
  • 6:40-6:55 – Trade Minister’s speech and Q&A
  • 6:55-7:00 – Closing remarks from the Ambassador of Peru, HE Mr José Emilio Bustinza
  • 7:00-7:30 – Drinks and networking

Hon Todd McClay – Minister for Trade

Hon Todd McClay is the Member of Parliament for Rotorua and was first elected to Parliament in 2008. He is the Minister for Agriculture, Forestry, Hunting and Fishing, and Trade, and an Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs.

McClay has been a Cabinet minister in two National-led governments. Todd has previously been a diplomat and was the Cook Islands and Nuie Ambassador to the European Union. He has worked in business in Europe as well as government and public relations internationally.
