Earlier this year, the UK applied for membership to the CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership) multilateral trade agreement. at the end of last month (20 Oct 2021), New Zealand and the UK reached agreement on the key elements of a new high quality, comprehensive and progressive free trade agreement. It is clear the UK has its sights in the Indo-Pacific region.

In collaboration with the Asia Forum, the Southeast Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence brings you Navigating Global Challenges: Global Britain and the Indo Pacific, in conversation with special guest Ruth Dix, Political Counsellor, British High Commission.

Special guest: Ruth Dix Political Counsellor, British High Commission

Ruth has been Political Counsellor at the British High Commission since January 2020 where she has oversight of foreign and security policy, science and innovation and domestic politics. She has also undertaken a diplomatic posting in South Africa. In Whitehall she worked for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office – primarily on multilateralism and international security, including UN peacekeeping, the Balkans, and as a Private Secretary to the Political Director – and alongside the Departments for Defence and International Trade on defence and security exports. Ruth has also worked on human resources and has a Masters in Business Administration.

Ruth is married to Richard, a Secondary School Principal, and they have three children.
