New research report on diplomatic likemindedness with Latin America
8 February 2024
On Thursday, 8 February at the Hunter Council Chamber, at Victoria University of Wellington we launched our first piece of commissioned research for the year: a report by the New Zealand Institute of Economic Research on the extent and significance of New Zealand’s diplomatic collaborations with Latin America and the steps required to enhance our linkages with this region in an age of reduced certainty.
Joining us were the report’s authors Chris Nixon, Principal Economist at NZIER and former Minister of Trade and former Ambassador to the United States and World Trade Organization, Hon Tim Groser. Following them, we had a lively discussion panel with Sarah Lee, Unit Manager – Latin America and Caribbean, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Dr Malcolm MacKinnon, Adjunct Associate Professor, School of History, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington, and Dr Bryce Johnson from the Democracy Project.
A video of the event will be posted shortly.
