In November 2022, North Asia CAPE in collaboration with BTM held a week-long Study Tour to Japan, our first in-person study tour since Covid-19. The purpose of the tour was to increase the understanding of the Japan inbound tourism market amongst the upcoming tourism leaders in New Zealand, and to create opportunities for them to connect and collaborate with partners in Japan.

With the support of the Tourism Export Council (TECNZ), we selected six participants who represented various sectors across the export tourism market from around the country.

Amanda Linklater – Go with Tourism

Amy Gibson – Weta Workshop

Karen Oliff – Kiwi Rail/Interislander

Lucho Arca – Te Papa

While in Japan the participants met with industry leaders, experienced Japanese tourist famils, and partook in the Japan New Zealand Business Council (JNZBC) Conference in Beppu, sister city to Rotorua.

All six participants served as inspiring young ambassadors for New Zealand while abroad, and presented their learnings at the TECNZ Xmas Symposium in December.
