Market and Industry Placement Programme
Why should students participate?
Make the most of your upcoming summer break and apply for an MIPP placement! Host businesses assign students with a non-mission critical project relating to new or established ideas with Southeast Asia markets. Working with the business, the student(s) will spend around 12-15 hours per fortnight on this project to create recommendations for the company’s current or future engagement in the region. Students will also have the opportunity to attend and engage in workshops and seminars run by SEA CAPE and its partners to boost knowledge in the industry and market(s).

Commitment and requirements during the placement
- Commit 12-15 hours per fortnight for a three-month period. Any extension will be discussed and renegotiated with the SEA CAPE Director.
- Meet with your company/workplace supervisor at least once a week, on-site or online, at the initial stage or as required.
- Meet with your assigned academic supervisor biweekly for guidance on the research project.
- Submit a short progress report at the end of each month for feedback from both workplace and academic supervisors.
- Produce the final report at the end of the placement.
- Maintain regular communication with SEA CAPE staff to ensure everything is on track.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- Currently enrolled in a New Zealand tertiary institution
- Academic GPA grade requirement: average B+ and above (most recent two years carry more weight)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
Desirable
- Experience in working on an industry project
- Experience in engagement with or in the Southeast Asia region.

Who can apply?
Applications are open to all tertiary students enrolled full-time in a New Zealand tertiary institute. This includes both domestic and international, and both undergraduate and postgraduate students. There is no restriction on your disciplinary background as long as you fit the criteria.
When can I apply?
Applications are open now and remain open year round, so you can apply to join our applicant pool at any time. Demand for placements by businesses can happen anytime throughout the year. Upon receiving your application, if you are qualified, we will put you in our applicant pool and will be in touch when a good match comes up for you.
What industries or organisations might I be placed with?
Host businesses may be from any of New Zealand’s key industries.
Businesses from all industries can approach us at any time throughout the year looking for students to research projects for them.
Can I get any academic credits for my placement?
No, this placement cannot be counted towards your academic credits.
Is there any cost associated with the placement?
No, there is no cost associated with the placement, other than normal incidentals associated with any job such as; travel to placement site, lunch etc.
Are placements paid?
No, The Market and Industry Placement Programme is not a paid opportunity, however a gratuity may be considered between SEA CAPE and your host business.
Can I do more than one placement?
No.
